Crate training is an easy way to save EVERYTHING YOU OWN. I have lost things that are irreplaceable because I used to not be in crate training. Remember when I said don't save money and buy a barn raised dog? I had one. He was terrified of being locked up. He never got used to small spaces. He would go to the groomer and he would breakout of the crate. If he couldn't breakout he'd pee himself, sitting there, cowering. It was torcher. I would tell the groomer that he was claustrophobic and they would spend all this time washing him to do it again because he would pee himself. It was terrible.
But you're not buying a barn dog because we already talked about the importance of getting an in the home raised dog.
I also have a rescue. She's awesome. You can meet her when you come to pick up a puppy. She will want to meet you and she will love you. She WAS crate trained from her breeder. But because I had a dog that couldn't be crate trained I didn't want to be mean to her. This was such a mistake. She's stole food, she ate my couch, SHE ATE MY MARRIAGE LICENSE. She didn't do it because she was anxious. She didn't do it because she hated being alone. She did it because she had the opportunity.
When starting to crate train your puppy you first have to start out with you. You're not putting them in time out. You're not putting them in there because you're a terrible person. There is no reason to feel bad about crate training a dog. Dogs sleep between 12-16 hours a day, they can sleep all night and then sleep all day while you are at work and they'll be fine. If you feel bad your dog is going to learn how to manipulate you so fast. He's going wine and yelp and cry. And you need to stay tough, stay strong and keep with it.
First. Don't put the dog in its crate as soon as you're leaving. As soon you start going through your ready to go routine, put the dog(s) in their crate.
